Canoeing: Romania – suspended one year from international competitions due to doping cases, will miss the Rio Olympic Games

The Romanian Canoeing Federation (FRKC) has been suspended by the International Federation for one year from the competitions because of numerous doping cases, and thus will miss the participation to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (August 5 to 21) .

“The World Federation (ICF) has suspended the teams (seniors – our note) of Romania and Belarus with immediate effect, after additional evidence was presented to the Executive Committee meeting on July 13 in Krakow. The samples were submitted as evidence of systematic doping in the team Romania, 11 positive samples from athletes tested in April 2016,” the world body’s website informs.

Most cases are related to the use meldonium after it was put on the list of banned substances by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on December 31, 2015.
