Champions League: HCM Baia Mare defeats Thuringer 38-27, through to quarter-finals
Women’s handball Vice-champions HCM Baia Mare have qualified to the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Friday after defeating Thuringer HC 38-27 (19-12 ) in the penultimate stage of the main groups.
HCM managed the fifth consecutive victory in as many matches in the first main group, a group which it joined without any point.
Alexandra do Nascimento was the best scorer, with 9 goals, along with Allison Pineau, 7 goals. Other scorers: Patricia Vizitiu – 6, Ana-Maria Tănăsie – 6, Lois Abbingh – 6, Luciana Marin – 1, Gabriela Perianu – 1, Valentina Ardean-Elisei – 1, Katarina Jezic – 1.
In the standings, on first place is Rostov on Don – 15 points, followed by FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria – 10 p, HCM Baia Mare – 10 p, Larvik – 8p, Fleury Loiret Handball – 6 p, Thuringer HC, 1. HCM and Thuringer each have a game played ahead the other competitors.
In the last round of the main groups, HCM will play away against Ferencvaros (FTC Rail Cargo Hungaria) on February 27.
