Champions League, third qualifying round: FC Viitorul 1 APOEL Nicosia 0
FC Viitorul Constanta has defeated APOEL Nicosia (Cyprus) 1-0 Wednesday evening, on the stadium in Ovidiu, in the first round of the Champions League third qualifying round.
At its debut, the team coached by Gheorghe Hagi (photo) scored in the 75th minute, goal by Cristian Ganea.
The victory could have been more substantial and was shadowed by the injury of striker George Tucudean in the stoppage time.
The return round will take place on August 2 in Nicosia.
“We are happy because we have won, we learn from every experience, we have had the consistency, we have imposed ourselves in most of the time, we have had many opportunities, the score could have been bigger. We hope to cope with the challenge in the return match. They have experienced players from strong championships, players who played for Chelsea, M’Gladbach, Anzhi. I liked it, we played the game in our style,” Gheorghe Hagi told the national television.
