Cycling: Tour of Romania resumes after 5 years, starts on Tuesday from Alba Iulia
The cycling Tour of Romania reenters the international calendar, after five years, starting from Alba Iulia on Tuesday and ending in Bucharest, Eduard Novak, President of the Romanian Cycling Federation, said on Tuesday.
The competition takes place during September 18-23 and will have 718 km crossing the three Romanian historical provinces, on the occasion of the centennial of the Great Union, Romania-actualitati.ro informs.
The first state is 154.7 km long and takes place on Tuesday on the route: Alba Iulia – Vingard – Draşov – Doştat – Păuca – Roşia de Secaş – Blaj – Şeica Mică – Şeica Mare – Slimnic – Ocna Sibiului – Sibiu.
Known also as the ‘little loop’, the Tour of Romania will have five stages. Five national teams, 11 continental teams and four club teams compete.
Five jerseys will be awarded: yellow – for the leader of the general standings; white – the best athlete Under 23; Green – the best printer; blue – the best Romanian athlete; red – the best climber.
Romanian cyclist Eduard Grosu (Nippo Vini Fantini) will not compete, as his team did not allow him to take part to the tour.
For Romania, the best chances are for Sergey Tsvetcov (United HealthCare – photo) as he will compete for the national team.
