Romanian swimmer David Popovici qualified with the first time in the final of the 200 meter free trial at the Olympic Games in Paris tonight, with the best time of 1:44.53 hundredths. The athlete qualified in the last act with the best time.

The final is scheduled for Monday, July 29, from 21:40.

Popovici, aged 19, double world champion and quadruple European champion, had previously achieved the best time of the series, 1 min 45 sec 65/100.

The second time in the semi-finals was obtained by the British Duncan Scott, 1 min 44 sec 94/100.

The Olympic Games in Paris 2024 officially started on Saturday, and on Sunday David Popovici entered the scene, who swam in the preliminaries of the 200 meters freestyle.

David Popovici has the third time in history at 200 meters freestyle, this evening’s test, but the only time of 1:42 if we only consider the performances achieved outside the “magic suit era”, writes the website SwimSwam. It’s about the performance-enhancing suits, pulled over almost the entire body by the swimmers, and which were later withdrawn.
