Europa League: FCSB and Universitatea Craiova win matches in first preliminary qualifying round

Romanian football vice-champions FCSB defeated Moldovan team Milsami Orhei 2-0 (1-0) Thursday evening in Giurgiu, in the first round of the first preliminary round of the Europa League.

Florin Tănase opened the score and increased the advantage of his team in the 56th minute. Lucian Filip, introduced in the 62nd minute, was sent off in just 10 minutes, after he was shown two yellow cards.

The return match will take place in Orhei, on July 18, at 20:00h. The winner will face Alashkert (Armenia) or Macedonia GP (Northern Macedonia). In the first round, Alashkert won 3-1.

In another match on Thursday, Universitatea Craiova (photo) defeated Azerbaijan’s Sabail FK 3-2 (1-1) at the Bayil Stadium in Baku in the first round of the first preliminary round of the Europa League.

Alexandru Mateiu (12th minute), Nicuşor Bancu (51st minute), Mihai Roman II (67th minute) scored for Craiova, while both goals of the hosts were scored by Agabala Ramazanov (33rd, 82nd minutes).

For Universitatea Craiova was the first win in European cups after 26 years.

The return match will be played in Craiova on July 18. If it goes past Sabail, the Romanian team will play in the second preliminary round against the winner of the matches between Zalgiris Vilnius (Lithuania) and Honved Budapest (Hungary).
