European Champion, shooter Laura Coman – Romania’s flag-bearer at the opening of European Games 2019 in Minsk
Laura Coman, European champion in the 10 metres air rifle, has been designated by the Executive Committee of the Olympic and Sport Committee (COSR) as flag-bearer for Romania at the opening ceremony of the European Games 2019 in Minsk.
Laura Coman (photo) won the gold medal in the 10 metres air rifle in March, at the European Shooting Championship 10 metres in Osijek, Croatia, after two rounds of playoff. She won the bronze medal with the Romanian team. The Air Rifle Women’s team of Romania included Laura Coman, Eliza Molnar and Roxana Sidfi and won the bronze medal in the 10 metres event, defeating Austria in the dispute for the 3rd position.
At the previous edition of the European Games 2015 in Baku, the flag-bearer was Alin Moldoveanu, Olympic champion in the 10 metres air rifle in London 2012.
Laura Coman is one of the three Romanian athletes who have already qualified to the Olympic Games 2020, along with swimmer Robert Glinta and athlete Florentina Iusco.
The second edition of the European Games will be held in Minsk, Belarus, during June 21-30, and will feature 15 sports, with the participation of 4,022 athletes from 50 countries. For three sports the competition will equal the European Championships and the results in eight sports will count on the road to the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo.
