Fed Cup: Ilie Nastase summons Halep, Begu, Niculescu and Cirstea for the first match in World Group II against Belgium
Romanian tennis player Simona Halep (4th WTA), Irina Begu (28th WTA), Monica Niculescu (35th WTA) and Sorana Cîrstea (59th WTA) have been summoned to the national team for the match against Belgium, counting for the first round of World Group II, the Romanian Tennis Federation informs. The match will take place in Polyvalent Hall in Bucharest during February 11-12.
Ilie Nastase, non-player Captain, has also summoned Patricia Maria Tig (104th WTA) as reserve.
“I am happy to summon the best team for this important match against Belgium in Fed Cup. Our girls are very strong, elite players and I believe that the Romanian fans, whom I welcome to the Polyvalent Hall in Bucharest, will watch high level tennis. Romania deserves to qualify to Fed Cup World Group I and I also know the girls also want it,” Ilie Nastase said.
Romania lost all three matches against Belgium in Fed Cup during the past decades: 0-2 in France counting for the World Group quarter-finals, 2-1 and 0-3 in 1995 in Spain in World Group I of the Europe-Africa zone.
