Fed Cup: Niculescu and Cirstea will play the singles matches against Belgium
Romanian tennis players Sorana Cirstea and Monica Niculescu will play for Romania the singles matches against Belgium, in first round of Fed Cup World Group II, according to the draw on Friday, at the Intercontinental Hotel in Bucharest.
Niculescu will play the first match on Saturday, starting at 13.00h, against Kirsten Flipkens and Sorana Cirstea will face Yanina Wickmayer at the Polyvalent Hall in Bucharest.
On Sunday, in the third singles game, starting at 13.00h, Niculescu will face Wickmayer, and Cirstea will play against Flipkens. In the doubles match the pair Irina Begu/Patricia Tig will play against Elise Mertens/Maryna Zanevska.
Surprisingly Irina Begu, 29th WTA, is absent, as this week she accused stomach pains.
The best Romanian player of the moment, Simona Halep, 4th WTA, declared forfeit for the Fed Cup match against Belgium due to a knee injury.
This week, Romanian team captain Ilie Nastase announced the doubles match will be played by Begu and Niculescu, however things have changed.
Niculescu (36th WTA) and Flipkens (74th WTA) stand 3-3 in terms of direct matches.
Cirstea (62nd WTA) is led 3-1 by Wickmayer (62nd WTA).
Wickmayer has advantage in confrontations with Monica Niculescu, 3-2.
