Romanian tennis player Simona Halep defeated Kristina Mladenovic on Saturday in the first match between France and Romania in the Fed Cup semifinals.

At Rouen, Halep won 6-3, 6-1, at the end of a match that lasted an hour and 40 minutes.

Mihaela Buzarnescu, however, lost the match against Caroline Garcia 3-6, 3-6, and France and Romania are equal after the first day, score 1-1.

On Sunday, Simona Halep will face Caroline Garcia, and Mihaela Buzarnescu will probably face Kristina Mladenovic. If the score will be equal after these matches, then the doubles match will be played, where Romania will be represented by Irina Begu and Monica Niculescu.

Romania’s non-player captain, Florin Segarceanu, did not rule out the possibility that Mihaela Buzarnescu will be replaced by Irina Begu or Monica Niculescu on the second day.

In the other semi-final the score on Saturday was Australia 1 Belarus 1.
