Romania women’s epee team has won gold at the fencing European Championships in Montreux (Switzerland) on Tuesday after defeating Estonia 45-35.

Ana-Maria Brânz? (photo), Simona Pop, Simona Gherman (and reserve Loredana Dinu) have thus kept the gold medal won last year (against Russia) at the competition hosted by Strasbourg. The Romanian team took its revenge against Estonia, which defeated Romania in the match for the gold medal in 2013 in Zagreb.

In the quarterfinals, Romania defeated Ukraine 31-25 and Sweden in the semi-finals 45-42.

The bronze medals went to Italy (Rossella Fiamingo, Bianca Del Carretto, Maria Navarria), which defeated Sweden 45-34.

Romania had won a previous medal in Montreux, by Simona Pop, in the individual epee event, agerpres.ro informs.

The competition features on Wednesday the sword female team competitions (without Romania) and men’s epee event (Adrian Pop, Otto Tardi, Adrian Szilagyi, Bertalan Arkosi).
