Fencing: Romania’s team of men’s sabre wins World Cup round in Warsaw

Romania’s men’s sabre team won the World Cup round in Warsaw on Sunday after defeating Italy 45-44.

In the last sixteen round Romania defeated France 45-40, in the quarter-finals Romania defeated Russia with the same score, and in the semi-finals Romania won 45-44 against Hungary. The Romanian team, coached by Florin Zalomir, included Tiberiu Dolniceanu (CS Dinamo), Iulian Teodosiu (CS Dinamo), Alin Badea (CSA Steaua) and Madalin Bucur (CS Dinamo).

The third place was won by South Korea which defeated Hungary 45-43 in the match for places 3-4.

In the individual competition, held Friday and Saturday, the Romanian fencers ranked on the following positions: Iulian Theodosius (CS Dinamo) – 20th place, Tiberiu Dolniceanu (CS Dinamo) – 34th, Madalin Bucur (CS Dinamo) – 53rd, Alin Badea (CSA Steaua) – 55th, Dragos Sirbu (CS Dinamo) – 94th, Sorin Eftimie (CS Dinamo) – 137th place, George Iancu (CSA Steaua) – 143rd place.
