Football: Emerich Ienei, only Romanian coach winner of European Cup – adviser to Hungarian PM Viktor Orban
Emeric Ienei, former coach of Steaua Bucharest, with which he won the European Cup in 1986 against FC Barcelona, has accepted the proposal to be adviser to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on sports issues.
The Hungarian Government has made important investments in the Romanian football team Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe. This year the team has qualified in the play-off. Thus, PM Viktor Orban seems to register a hit on Romania, antena3.ro reports. He has convinced one of the best known Romanian coaches of Hungarian ethnicity to be his adviser on sports issues.
“I know him for a long time, he is a person involved and passionate by football, I couldn’t refuse him. I went to Hungary to him only once, we had a meeting, that’s all, as it is hard to travel on roads. We often talk by phone, it is the simplest way. When I was in Budapest to talk to him, there were there also some Turkish people to talk about football,” Emerich Ienei said for ‘Gazeta Sporturilor’.
