Halep climbs down to no.3 in the WTA rankings
Romanian Simona Halep climbed down to no.3 in the WTA rankings, after six weeks of holding the second best tennis player in the world’s position.
Russian Maria Sharapova advanced Halep, after she battled past Petra Kvitova to win her fourth WTA title of the year at the Premier Mandatory-level China Open and secure a return to World No.2. Halep was forced to withdraw from the China tournament due to a right hip injury. Serena Williams is holding no. 1 in women’s singles tennis, being the oldest player to hold the WTA ranking.
Only two Romanian tennis players are ranking in the first 100 WTA top, Monica Niculescu, no 45 and Irina Begu, no 61. Sorana Carstea ranks no.101 and Alexandra Dulgheru no. 105.
