The President of Viitorul Constanta football club, former footballer Gheorghe Popescu, has revealed that Ianis Hagi will be transferred to the Belgian team Genk.
The delegation of Viitorul, which included Ianis Hagi, football legend Gheorghe Hagi, Gheorghe Popescu and George Ogararu, was in Belgium on Thursday to discuss the transfer, which will be completed on Friday, ziare.com reports.
Ianis Hagi is to undergo the medical check and then he is to sign the contract with the Belgium’s champions.
“It is a sports project which was to Ianis’ liking. Ianis did not pay much attention to the financial issue and wanted to choose the sports project which offers him the possibility to grow,” Gheorghe Popescu said for Telekom Sport.
“Ianis is very motivated. He waited for the end of vacation. He wants to train, not to go on holiday. He waited for this period to come to an end. It was a hard period for him. There were so many teams which wanted to transfer him. He could not enjoy the vacation due to these interests. Ianis has chosen the team which he believes could support him to grow as footballer,” Popescu added.
Belgian papers Het Nieuwsblad and Derniere Heure inform that Genk will pay about EUR 10 million to transfer Ianis Hagi.
HRC Genk will play in the next season of Champions League, after winning the champions title. The club was established in 1988 and has won the Belgian title four times, plus four Cups.
