Indian Wells: Niculescu defeats Cirstea to reach second round. Marius Copil, on the main table
Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu (45th WTA) qualified on Wednesday to the second round at Indian Wells, after defeating another Romanian player, Sorana Cirstea (66thWTA), 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. In the second round, Niculescu will face Timea Bacsinszky (Switzerland, 15th seeded).
In the doubles event, Niculescu will pair with Christina McHale (US) to face main favourites Bethanie Mattek-Sands (US)/Lucie Safarova (Czech Republic).
In the men’s competition, Marius Copil (111th ATP) qualified to the main table, after defeating Denis Kudla (US, 134th ATP) 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the last round of the qualifying matches.
