Indian Wells: Simona Halep qualifies after defeating Navarro, to face Serena Williams in the semi-finals. Mergea/Inglot defeated

Simona Halep, third favourite, has defeated on Wednesday night Carla Suarez Navarro 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 and qualified for the Indian Wells tournament semi-finals and is to face Serena Williams next.

Serena Williams, 1st WTA has defeated on Wednesday 7-5, 6-3 Timea Bacsinszky (Switzerland) (26th WTA and seeded 27), and qualified for the semi-finals of the Indian Wells.

Halep and Williams last met in October 2014 in the champions tournament, Halep being defeated 6-3, 6-0. The two players have also met in the Red Group, when Halep won 6-0, 6-2.

The Indian Wells semi-finals are scheduled on Friday.

 

Mergea/Inglot pair defeated in the quarterfinals

 

The pair made up of Romanian tennis player Florin Mergea and Britain’s Dominic Inglot was defeated on Wednesday night by the pair Marcin Matkowski (Poland) / Nenad Zimonjic (Serbia), 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 in the quarterfinals of the double event of Indian Wells.

Mergea/Inglot were defeated on an hour and 8 minutes match and will be rewarded with USD 36,770 and 180 ATP points for participation to the California tournament.

This year the pair has a balance of 16 wins and 7 defeats in ATP tour, before Indian Wells they were ranking 5th place in 2015.
