Indian Wells: Tennis player Simona Halep through to last sixteen
Romania’s tennis player Simona Halep has advanced on Monday morning to the last sixteen round of the women’s singles event of at Indian Wells Maters tournament in California, after defeating Varvara Lepchenko (26th WTA) 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
At 1-1 Simona Halep accused pain at the left ankle and called the tournament’s physiotherapist.
For Simona Halep, the service remains an important issue. She committed seven double faults, four in the first set only, and had a 50 percent success rate of the first service. Halep had 24 winning balls versus 20 for Lepchenko, but the difference was clearly made by the unforced errors, 56 for Lepchenko, compared to 37 for Halep.
For a place in the quarterfinals, Simona Halep will play against Czech player Karolina Pliskovica, 15th WTA and seeded 14 in the tournament, which eliminated 7-5, 6-4 Garbine Muguruza , number 22nd WTA and seeded 19th.
Halep and Pliskovica have met in the final in Dubai in February, when Halep won 6-4, 7-6 (4). The qualification in Indian Wells last sixteen round is rewarded with a prize of USD 59,185 dollars and with 120 WTA points.
