Italian Open: Romanian trio Halep, Dulgheru, Begu advance to the last sixteen

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep has defeated American Alison Riske 6-3, 6-0 on Wednesday ,after a 61-minute match, getting through to the last sixteen in the Italian Open tournament. This is just the first time that Halep and Riske cross paths on the professional circuit. Halep will meet further the winner between Venus Williams and Elina Svitolina.
The Romanian tennis player reached so far the same performance as last year at Rome tournament, where she got through to the last sixteen but eventually retired due to medical reasons.
Halep’s best performance at the Italian Open was set in 2013, when she got to the semi-final, but was defeated by Serena Williams.
Alexandra Dulgheru has also qualified for the last sixteen stage after defeating WTA 12th Lucie Safarova 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6).
Irina Begu has registered a sensational victory against Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-3 to qualify to the next round. Following this win, Begu is to get EUR 22,800 and 105 WTA points.
