Judo: Andreea Chitu wins bronze medal at Tel Aviv Grand Prix
Romanian judoka Andreea Chitu has won the bronze medal in the 52 kg category, at the first edition of the Tel Avic Grand Prix, the European Judo Union informs on its website on Friday.
In the encounter for bronze medal, Andreea Chitu defeated by ippon Alesia Kuznetzova (Russia), the other bronze medal being won by Fabienne Kocher (Switzerland). In the first matches, Chitu defeated Taciana Cesar (Guinea-Bissau), Tinka Easton (Australia) and Angelica Delgado (US). In the semi-finals, the Romanian judoka lost by ippon to Olympic champion Majlinda Kelmendi (Kosovo), who also won the gold medal, defeating in the final Oili Cohen (Israel).
The first ever Tel Aviv Grand Prix saw host nation Israel take the tournament’s first gold medal up for grabs when Shira RISHONY (ISR) defeated Maryna CHERNIAK (UKR) to win the -48kg category. The bronze medals were won by CSERNOVICZKI Eva (HUN) and Nathalia BRIGIDA (BRA). There was further cause for celebration when in the final of the -57kg category Timna NELSON-LEVY (ISR) defeated Daria MEZHETSKAIA (RUS), to bring the opening day to a close and hand Israel their second gold medal. The bronze medals were won by Ivelina ILIEVA (BUL) and Nekoda SMYTHE-DAVIS (GBR), the European Judo Union also informs.
