Judo: Larisa Florian wins gold medal at the Grand Slam in Baku

Romanian judoka Larisa Florian has won the gold medal at the 52 kg weight category on Friday, at the Grand Slam tournament in Baku (Azerbaijan), after defeating in the final Reka Pupp (Hungary) by waza ari.

Florian, who won this year the third place at the Grand Prix in Dusseldorf, succeeded in the quarter-final a landmark victory by ippon against reigning champion Charline van Snick European (Belgium) and in the semi-finals she defeated, also by ippon, Brazilian Sarah Menezes, Olympic champion in London (2012).

The competition brings together 183 judoka from 31 countries, 110 in male competition and 73 in the female event.
