Irina, who in the previous round at Madrid Open defeated Jelena Ostapenko, becomes the second Romanian tennis player eliminated from in Madrid, as in the first round Sharapova defeated, in straight sets, Mihaela Buzarnescu.
Begu started the match well, but the aggressive play of the opponent made the difference and broke the balance before the tie-break.
In the second set, Irina started again with a break, but it would be the only game won by our tennis player, definitely surpassed by Sharapova in the final points of the match.
For her presence in the second round of the tournament owned by Ion Tiriac, Irina Begu will be rewarded with a cheque of EUR 32,260 and 65 WTA points.
