Men’s handball, Champions League: HCM Minaur Baia Mare defeats RK Metalurg Skopje away match
HCM Minaur Baia Mare men’s handball team defeated on Sunday RK Metalurg Skopje of Macedonia, 23-21 (13-7), in an away Group D match of the men’s handball Champions League in Skopje.
Minaur dominated the game, leading from one end to the other, but it was quite close to losing the edge close to the end of the match, Agerpres informs.
The start was favourable to Minaur, Romania’s current champion, who led 3-0 (min. 5), 5-1 (9) and 7-2 (13). Minaur had a maximum score lead of six goals, 12-6 (26), but at the interval the edge got down to four goals, 13-9.
The match was more balanced in the second period, with Metalurg playing hard to get to a draw, and it succeeded in minute 54, after three consecutive goals (20-20). Metalurg took the lead in minute 56, 21-20, but Minaur got to a tie (21-21, min. 56) and then mounted an excellent defensive, thanks to Tatai’s tactics, scoring two more times and winning a very precious victory 23-21.
Marius Sadoveac was Minaur’s best scorer, with 5 goals.
In the other matches of the same group, Motor Zaporoje defeated Elverum Handball Herrer, 33-30, and Skjern Handbold was defeated in a home match by Kadetten Schaffhausen, 29-25.
Skjern Handbold is the group leader, with 8 points (+16), followed by de Motor Zaporoje, 8 p (+7), HCM Minaur Baia Mare, 8 p (+4), Kadetten Schaffhausen, 5 p, Metalurg Skopje, 4 p, Elverum Handball Herrer, 3 p. The best two teams qualify for a play-off.
Minaur’s next match will be a home match on November 15 against Denmark’s Skjern Handbold.
