Men’s Handball: National team to be taken over by the best coach of the season in Spain

Romanian Handball Federation (FRH) has managed to convince Xavi Pascual to take over the national men’s handball team, as the negotiations with the Catalan coach started immediately after Aihan Omer’s resignation from the position of head coach. Xavi Pascual was expected Monday in Bucharest to sign the contract, informs.

Pascual will train the national team and FC Barcelona in parallel. The Spanish coach will come accompanied by two mate coaches and will also have a Romanian coach in the coaching staff, whose name will be revealed on Thursday. The reform of the juniors and youth lots will also be an important aspect of the project of the new coach of Romania’s handball team.

The FC Barcelona coach, Pascual, was named the best coach of the 2015/16 season in Liga ACB, this being the fourth title of his career. At the age of 48, Pascual is coach of Barcelona since 2009. As a player he was goalkeeper until 2005 when he joined Barcelona’s staff as goalkeepers’ coach. On FC Barcelona’s bench, Pascual won 31 trophies, including two Champions League titles (2011 and 2015).
