Men’s handball: Potaissa Turda defeat AEK Athens 33-22 in first round of Challenge Cup final
The men’s team Potaissa Turda defeated AEK Athens on Monday and have high chances to win the Challenge Cup this year. The goal difference, 33-22, is rather comfortable in view of the return match on Sunday, digisport.ro reports.
After the final lost last year against Sporting Lisbon, Potaissa Turda had the initiative from the very beginning and, after 2-2 and 3-3, took the lead and ended the first half with the score 14-11.
In the second half the hosts played even better and increased the goal difference, up to 11, the last goal being scored in the very last second of the match. In the first ten minutes of the second half, the guests scored only twice.
Georgică Cîntec, Alexandru Asoltanei and Cristian Ghiţă scored 7 goals each, the same did Christodoulos Mylonas from the guests.
The match ended 33-22, a score very hard to turn over in the return match in Athens on May 20.
