Rmanian tennis player Mihaela Buzărnescu will be able to participate in the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the International Tennis Federation announced. The presence at the Olympics of the player who ranks 104th in the WTA rankings is possible after several athletes from the top of the hierarchy refused to participate in the competition.

In addition to Mihaela Buzărnescu, Romanian tennis will have two more athletes in Tokyo: Raluca Olaru and Monica Niculescu, both in the women’s doubles.

Overall, the Romanian delegation from the Olympic Games will have 101 athletes.

The announcement on Mihaela Buzărnescu attending the Olympic Games comes following the row caused by the refusal of the tennis players qualified for the Olympic Games to represent Romania in Tokyo.

The first to announce her retirement from the Olympic Games was Simona Halep, due to a broken muscle in her leg in May, in the tournament in Rome.

Patricia Ţig said that she does not want to participate, and Sorana Cîrstea did not meet the condition of being played in the Federation Cup, after the player announced that she will no longer respond to the summons to the Romanian FedCup team.

Although she was eligible for the Olympic competition, Ana Bogdan also gave up participation.
