Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, 3rd WTA, has qualified easily, Wednesday afternoon, to the quarterfinals of Mutua Madrid Open.

Halep defeated Slovak tennis player Viktoria Kuzmova (46th WTA) 6-0, 6-0.

The match between the two, played on the Manolo Santana court, was watched by Ion Tiriac, Ilie Nastase and Nadia Comaneci, and lasted only 44 minutes!

“I was very pleased with the closed rooftop and I’m glad I’m back in the quarter-finals here because it’s one of my favorite tournaments,” Simona Halep said, quoted by ziare.com..

As for the evolution of her opponent, who has not managed to win a single game, Simona believes that the Slovakian player was emotionally overwhelmed and unable to play her game.

“I believe she had emotions and she did not manage to play her game. It’s a big tournament and one has to face top players,” said Halep.

In the next round, Simona will face Ashleigh Barty , who defeated Yulia Putintseva 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

On Tuesday, two-time champion Simona Halep of Romania notched a second-round win over Great Britain’s Johanna Konta at the Mutua Madrid Open, emerging victorious 7-5, 6-1 to move into the round of 16 in the Spanish capital for the fourth straight year.

Halep, who hoisted the trophy in Madrid in 2016 and 2017, claimed a tense, streaky opening set before easing to victory over Konta after one hour and 28 minutes of play. Halep picked up just her second win over Konta in their five WTA main-draw meetings, wtatennis.com informed.

3rd-seeded Halep played a clean match, with 19 winners to just 13 unforced errors, and broke Konta five times in 13 chances. World No.41 Konta, who reached her first-ever clay-court final at Rabat last week, blasted 24 winners but was undone by 34 unforced errors.

“It was a tough match, she is very confident. The second set I found the right pace and I knew how to play. I played rather well and I am happy with this victory,” Halep said after the match, as quoted by ziare.com.

In the first round, Halep defeated Margarita Gasparian 6-0, 6-4.

Simona Halep is also competing in the doubles event. The pair Simona Halep/Irina Begu defeated on Monday Raluca Olaru/Darija Jurak (Romania/Croatia) 6-2, 6-3, to reach the last sixteen round.
