Ovidiu Haţegan will officiate at Euro 2016. The first Romanian referee at a continental tournament since 1988

Ovidiu Haţegan has been nominated by UEFA among the 18 referees who will officiate at the European Championship. The 35 year-old referee will be the first Romanian to officiate at a continental tournament since 1988.
In 1988 Ioan Igna was referee at one of the European Championship matches, the semi-final between the Netherlands and FRG: 2-1 at Hamburg.
The last match officiated by Ovidiu Haţegan was in the last stage of the Champions League on December 8, Benfica – Atletico Madrid.
Haţegan has also officiated two matches in Europa League, two games of Euro 2012 qualifiers, three matches of World Cup qualifiers in 2014 and four matches of Euro 2016 qualifiers.
