President Klaus makes blunder during ceremony to award Romanian Olympic athletes

During the speech at the Cotroceni Palace, the president misread what was written on the sheet in front of him and said “commemoration” instead of “ceremony”. “Today’s commemoration is the snapshot of many years of work by athletes, of young generations of people in sports, of a long history with many joys, but also with challenges,” said Iohannis.
While commemoration means a ceremony intended to evoke the memory of an important person or even, a ceremony is a set of rules, of external, protocol forms, customary at solemnities.

Romania won 9 medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics: 3 gold (David Popovici – swimming, men’s double sculls rowing, women’s eight rowing), 4 silver (women’s double sculls rowing, women’s coxless pair rowing, lightweight double sculls, Mihaela Cambei – weightlifting), and 2 bronze (David Popovici – swimming, Ana Maria Bărbosu – gymnastics, following TAS decision).

At the Paris Paralympic Games, Bologa won gold in judo for the visually impaired, 73 kg category (J1), while Ciripan won bronze in women’s singles table tennis (WS6).
