Qatar Total Open: Sorana Cîrstea through, Irina Begu – out

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cîrstea has qualified to the second round of the WTA tournament in Doha (Qatar) on Tuesday, with total prizes of USD 3.1 million, after defeating the Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari 6-2, 6-3.

Sorana Cîrstea (27, 38th WTA) has won in an hour and 13 minutes, in front of a 22-year-old adversary, ranked 60th WTA. Cîrstea has secured a cheque of USD 17,325 and 60 WTA points and will face in the next round Belgian Elise Mertens (20th WTA).

In another match on Tuesday, Romanian tennis player Irina Begu was defeated by Australian Samantha Stosur 6-4, 6-2.

Irina Begu (37th WTA), with a thigh injury, lost the match in an hour and 15 minutes. Begu is to receive a cheque of USD 8,900 and one WTA point.
