Red Bull Dance Your Style in Romania

Now in its third year in Romania, Red Bull Dance Your Style throws the best and most creative local dancers into a fierce battle. This autumn, they’ll be putting different moves, different street-dance styles and approaches to the test, from Hip-Hop to Popping, Waacking, Afro, Vogue, Electro Dance and Dancehall. The contestants battle on any tempo, on surprising music (from evergreen hits to tracks of the moment) to earn a place in the next round. In each of the 15 battles, contestants will be assigned a colour, red or blue, and it’s the duty of the audience to vote for the one that wins their hearts using the LED wristband received on entry. With no professional judges, planned choreography or rehearsals, Red Bull Dance Your Style is about embracing the moment. It’s 100% improvisation, where the DJ and the audience play a crucial role.

Who’s fighting to the last breath on October 5

They have impressed by dancing in dozens of local and international competitions, they have won awards after awards, they have taught hundreds of workshops in Romania and beyond, they have made a name for themselves on the small screen or in the performance halls. The street-dance artists who will duel in Bucharest on 5 October are:

  • Impulse – Red Bull Dance Your Style Romania 2022 champion. He has been dancing for 12 years. He started with popping, and later perfected freestyle hip-hop.
  • Alin Țîrcă – 2nd place Red Bull Dance Your Style Romania 2022. He represents Street Groove Studio. He has been dancing for 11 years, during which time he has perfected several dance styles, from breaking, to contemporary and ballet, and the street-styles umbrella. In recent years he has focused his research on freestyle, improvisation, and movement.
  • Sătănel – voted the best street dancer in Romania in 2021, at the first edition of Red Bull Dance Your Style Romania. She has been dancing since she was a teenager, and her love for hip-hop has grown over time and developed into a lifestyle.
  • Răzvan Feraru – has been representing the dancehall community in Romania for about 5 years. First contact with this dance style he had in 2017 and it was love at first move, coming to consider it a way of life, not just a dance style.
  • Mona – 3 years ago she discovered modern African dances and has been totally dedicated to these styles. She attended workshops abroad, trained with professional dancers, participated in both local and international battles.
  • Nadia – She has been dancing for 11 years, and for the last 4 years has focused on Hip Hop freestyle, but also experiments with other styles whenever she gets the chance. She most enjoys sharing the feelings she gets when dancing with the people around her.
  • Aura Vidroiu – dancer, choreographer, creative director. She is the choreographer of the winning @ World Of Dance Romania 2017 and has collaborated with several Romanian artists such as Bruja, Oscar, Vlad Dobrescu, Azteca, Amuly, Vlad Flueraru, JUNO, Mira, Nicole Cherry, Antonia and Alex Velea. Last year she released her first EP: AURA x PRNY EP.
  • Octavia – a versatile artist, passionate about culture. She’s been exploring waacking and vogue dance styles for 5 years, guided by her mentors Waana Neagu and Irina Lalciu. • Irene – has been dancing for 14 years and wants to never stop. Her favourite memories are related to dance: travels, competitions, friends from all over the world and all the lessons she learned through dance.
  • Luci – She entered the world of street dance in 2013 and has since experienced most styles. Along the way, she has achieved multiple national and international titles, and in the last year has focused on waacking.

  • Bogdan Zamfir a.k.a. Bobo – Over the past 15 years, he has performed in over 18 countries and created art pieces for theatres, television and artists. He has won multiple national and international competitions, and during his teaching career, he has trained thousands of dancers from Romania and abroad.

  • Adam – He is a dancer and has over 10 years of experience in the field. He has won multiple competitions in solo/duo and crew – street dance categories. Dance helps him express himself. When he dances, a whole new world opens and allows him to be himself.
  • Ionuț Eftene a.k.a. Ionuț – During his 14 years of dancing, he has invested all his soul in this type of art, and Hip-Hop Freestyle and House-Dance have become manifestations of his passion. This incredible journey has taken him to various places and allowed him to absorb the essence of the styles and from the pioneers who lit the flames of Hip Hop culture.
  • Teodora Păuni a.k.a. Funky T– represents Tupeu Crew. Her first dance teacher was her father, an old school street dancer. She has dabbled with most dance styles under the Street Dance umbrella, but 5 years ago she discovered that popping is the style that suits her.

Shurubel, MC:If you want to win, you must impress the audience, and from what I’ve noticed, the audience likes to see a lot of personality. Only someone who knows the rules of dance very well can afford to break them just enough. I think that’s where it all plays out, in their minds, in the mentality with which everyone enters the arena. If they stay focused, they deliver. I’ve grown up in this community since I was in high school going to 1 vs 1 battles where there were 50 people in the audience. Then in college, I started presenting them and there were 100 people in the room. At this point, the fans now number in the thousands and it showed at last year’s edition. It’s a vibrant, dance-breathing community, and competitions like Red Bull Dance Your Style are the breath of fresh air they need to take their passion further.”

ZDA, DJ: “Before I discovered that I like to sing, I did modern dance. Then I danced in many other contexts thanks to the projects I participated in. Before, I know there was a lot of hip-hop dancing at battles. Now, something tells me that they will get receptive to it all. I’ve noticed a growing evolution and openness among dancers, and I think they would love to dance to UK Garage, 2step, Afrobeats, Funk, you name it. Who doesn’t like surprise elements? I think we’re going to align planets, not expectations.”

Nearly a quarter of the world’s countries are sending their representatives today to fight for the big title

From 2018 to now, the Red Bull Dance Your Style international megashow has brought some of the world’s hottest street dancers into the spotlight, providing a space for breathtaking art demonstrations from around the globe. The dance community is where so many different voices and backgrounds vibrate: from 14 countries and 29 events in the first season, the qualifiers have expanded significantly, now taking place in over 46 countries, with 160 events worldwide. As in previous years, after the winners from each country have been chosen, the battle for the World Champion title takes place in the open – this season at the Festhalle Frankfurt, Germany, on 4 November 2023. In 2019, the competition’s ultimate title was won by Dutch B-boy Shinshan, with a unique mix of house, hip-hop, locking & popping influenced by capoeira, and in 2022, the trophy went to Japan’s D Soraki, with a fabulous show of almost acrobatic hip-hop, who, after refusing offers from Madonna and Cirque du Soleil, is today following his dream of changing the way the world perceives freestyle dancers: Not just as a back-up dancer, but as an artistic act per se.

A high-energy, high-powered demonstration, Red Bull Dance Your Style is an international all-styles street-dance competition with events in over 46 countries. In 2021, the first edition of Red Bull Dance Your Style in Romania celebrated Romanian street-dance in an extraordinary show at the Herăstrău Summer Theatre: 1,000 energetic spectators, 16 exceptional dancers, 15 electrifying duels, 3 hours of prolonged applause. Then, Alexandra Barac a.k.a Sătănel managed to win the hearts of the audience without appeal. In 2022, Impulse was crowned king of the dance floor in a sold-out show at the Bucharest Metropolitan Circus, in front of 1500 people.
