Roland Garros: Tecau/Rojer and Mergea/Boppana through to the second round. Simona Halep and Alexandra Dulgheru out!


The pairs in which Romanian tennis players Horia Tecau and Florin Mergea are part of have qualified on Wednesday to the second round at Roland Garros.

5th seeded Horia Tecau/Jean-Julien Rojer (Romania/Netherlands) defeated, 6-4, 7-6 (5), Rameez Junaid /Adil Shamasdin (Australia/Canada) while the pair Florin Mergea/Rohan Bopanna (Romania/India – 9th seeded) won the match against Serbs Filip Krajinovic/Viktor Troicki 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

In the next round, Tecau and Rojer will face Americans Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey, while Mergea/Bopanna will play against another pair of Americans, Austin Krajicek/Donald Young.

The qualification to the second round at Roland Garros is rewarded with a prize of EUR 18,000 and 180 ATP points each.

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, 3rd WTA and finalist last year, was defeated without appeal on Wednesday by Mirjana Lucic-Baroni (Croatia) 7-5, 6-1 in the second round of the tournament.

In another match, Alize Cornet (France) defeated Alexandra Dulgheru 6-2, 7-5.
