Romania to compete in Francophone Games with a delegation of 81 athletes
Minister of Youth and Sport, Marius Dunca (photo), has presented on Thursday the delegation that will represent Romania at the Francophone Games, the sports disciplines in which Romania will compete, as well as the official sports equipment.
Romania will be represented at the Francophone Games with a delegation made up of 81 persons – athletes, coaches, one doctor, masseurs, 3 international referees and representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, evz.ro reports.
The eighth edition of the Francophone Games will be held during July 21-30, 2017 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. In this edition, Romania will compete in 6 sports: athletics, women’s basketball, free wrestling and African wrestling (African wrestling are a premiere for Romanian sports in these games), road cycling, table tennis and judo.
“Romania has a good tradition at the Francophone Games, which I wish to maintain. We aim to win medals at wrestling, athletics, judo and table tennis, but we are confident that we will get good results at all 6 sports in which Romania participates. Sport is the best ambassador that a country can have and knows no borders – administrative, cultural, in terms of traditions or language. Fair play and the elegance the athletes offer should be a landmark for all of us,” Minister Dunca has said.
Estimated costs amount to RON 1,247,479.06 and are borne from by the ministry. The selection of athletes was made by the International Committee of the Francophone and by the international federations on the basis of the results obtained over the years.
