After losing the bronze medal to Jordan Chiles (23 years old) in the summer, following the appeal from the CAS, Ana Bărbosu will now take the step to the USA. Ana Bărbosu announced through a message posted on social networks that she can’t wait to go to the Stanford Gymnastics University in America, where she has just been accepted.

Lilia Cosman, who was also part of the Romanian team, has also been accepted to a university in the United States, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation announced on Wednesday.

Ana has been admitted to Stanford University, and Lilia to Michigan State University. Corina Moroșan, technical director at FRG, discussed with officials from the two universities to establish the gymnasts’ program and objectives,” the federation announced.

“Ana and Lilia will continue their preparation for the 2025 international competitions. Congratulations Ana, congratulations Lilia, we are proud of you,” the Federation also announced.

Following this decision, Ana Maria Bărbosu won the bronze medal on floor, while Sabrina Maneca Voinea finished in 4th place. On August 5, in the floor final, Ana Bărbosu was awarded the bronze medal by a few tens of seconds, but American Jordan Chiles filed an appeal and her score was increased from 13.666 to 13.766, so she finished in third place.
Sabrina Maneca-Voinea also filed an appeal for the score she received (13.700), but this was rejected.
The gold medal was won by Brazilian Rebeca Andrade, with a score of 14.166, while the silver went to American Simone Biles (14.133). Following the CAS decision, Ana Maria Bărbosu finished 3rd with 13.700, Sabrina Maneca-Voinea finished 4th with 13.700, and American Jordan Chiles will finish 5th with 13.666.
Romania had not won an Olympic medal in artistic gymnastics since 2012 (London), when Sandra Izbaşa won gold on vault, Cătălina Ponor won silver on floor, and the Romanian women’s team took bronze.
The Romanian women’s gymnastics team returned to the Olympic Games after 12 years on the occasion of this edition.
Our gymnasts ranked 7th in the team final, Ana Maria Bărbosu 17th, and Amalia Ghigoarţă 22nd in the all-around, Sabrina Maneca-Voinea 8th on beam and 4th on floor, and Ana Bărbosu 3rd on floor.
Romania concluded its participation in the Paris Olympic Games with nine medals, of which three gold, four silver and two bronze, ranking 23rd in the nation rankings.
