Rugby: Romania, defeated for the first time by Uruguay in test match
The national rugby team of Romania was defeated by Uruguay for the first time, 20-27 (13-13), in a test match played on Saturday on Ghencea Stadium in Bucharest.
Romania’s team had to face a very ambitious team, which had the initiative many times and took advantage of some defence problems of the host team.
Daniel Plai opened the score in the 6th minute from penalty kick, then Ionel Melinte scored for Romania, ten minutes later by touchdown. The guests scored from another penalty kick in the 25th minute, then Daniel Plai scored 3 points, also from penalty kick.
The guests scored again in the 38th minute and in the last seconds of the first half, which ended 13-13.
In the second half, the ‘Oaks’ were dominated and made mistakes in the defence, so Uruguay took the lead 20-13 in the 60th minute.
Florin Surugiu and Vladut Zaharia were booked with yellow cards and eliminated ten minutes each, leaving Romania in 13 players for several minutes. The guests failed to capitalize and Constantin Pristavita scored a touchdown in the 73rd minute. Nevertheless, Uruguay also scored by touchdown and won 27-20.
Romania’s national team concludes thus a disastrous year, being disqualified from the World Cup 2019 for utilizing an ineligible player in the qualifying matches and lost two test matches against the US and Uruguay.
