Romanian tennis player Irina Camelia Begu (27, 43rd WTA) has defeated on Sunday Fangzhou Liu (China, 147th WTA) 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of Shenzhen Open, a tournament with prizes amounting to USD 626,750.
In the next round Begu will face Ekaterina Alexandrova (Russia).
Also on Sunday, Monica Niculescu was defeated by Arina Sabalenka (Belarus) 6-4, 6-4.
In the doubles, Irina Begu and Simona Halep (1st WTA) defeated the Chinese pair Xinyun Han/Chen Liang 5-7, 6-2, 11-9.
Irina Bara/Mihaela Buzărnescu defeated Natela Dzalamidze (Rusia)/Xenia Knoll (Elveţia) 6-3, 6-7, 10-8.
In the next round, the above mentioned Romanian pairs Irina Bara/Mihaela Buzărnescu and Irina Begu/Simona Halep will face each other.
