Shenzhen WTA Finals: Simona Halep defeats Bianca Andreescu
Romanian tennis player Simona Halep has defeated Canadian Bianca Andreescu, of Romanian origin, in three sets, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, in a match in the Purple Group of the 2019 Shiseido WTA Finals Shenzhen (China) on Monday.
World no 5 Simona Halep has managed to save match point in the second set, and to come back from a break down in the third to defeat Bianca Andreescu, in a two-hour-and-34-minutes match “with dramatic overtones, at times,” as WTA Insider has tweeted.
28-year-old Halep will get a 525,000 US dollar check after this game and 250 WTA points, while 19yo Andreescu, world number 4 and US Open champion, will receive 220,000 US dollars and 125 WTA points.
In the second round, Andreescu will face off Karolina Pliskova and Halep will play against Elina Svitolina.
