Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, 2nd WTA, has announced on Sunday, on her Facebook page, she would undergo surgery soon and she will miss the Fed Cup matches against Czech Republic and the tournaments in Dubai and Doha.
“Regretfully, I have to announce I am forced to give up my participation to Fed Cup, because I will undergo surgery. Playing to the Fed Cup means a lot to me, I am disappointed for not being able to join the team. The last six weeks were extremely difficult for me, with stomach, nose and ear infections. It has been one of the toughest sport interval for me, as I did not have the possibility to train at full capacity, even under antibiotic medical treatment. I did my best in Australia but, due to infections, things have worsened. Under the guidance of the specialist doctor I will have to undergo surgery to solve a nose problem, as I was told this is the best option to treat the problem. Due to this reason, I have to withdraw from the Dubai and Doha tournaments. My next tournament will be when I will be 100 percent fit,” Halep wrote.
Halep says she hopes to return fit for Indian Wells. “I hope to be fit for the Indian Wells. I wish I go over this period and be able to go to Cluj to be beside the Romanian team, even just as spectator from the stand. Thank you for your constant support, I will miss you during this break. I will do my best to come back stronger and in a better shape,” she added.
