Simona Halep wins Dubai Duty Free Championship, to skip WTA tournament in Doha

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep has defeated on Saturday Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) 6-4, 7-6 to win the Dubai Duty Free Championship, her tenth title of the career. The match lasted an hour and 42 minutes. Following this result Halep is to climb to 3rd position WTA as she is to be awarded 900 points WTA. Simona Help also was awarded a prize of USD 450,000.

On Friday, in the semi-finals, Helep defeated Caroline Wozniacki 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. Simona Helep defeated Ekaterina Makarova (Russia) 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 on Thursday evening. In the quarter-finals Halep defeated Tsvetana Pironkova (Bulgaria) 6-4, 6-3. Previously Halep defeated 6-2, 6-0 Daniela Hantuchova (Slovakia).

On Sunday Halep has decided not to participate in the tournament in Doha (Qatar) to start on Monday. She said the decision is determined by the fatigue. She will, however, take part to activities meant to promote the tournament.

Halep, who will again be world number three months, won the WTA tournament Saturday at Dubai (UAE) and was appointed second favourite of the tournament in Qatar’s capital, with prizes total of USD 731,000.

Halep, who last year won the tournament in Doha, was to play directly in the last sixteen round against the winner between Alize Cornet and the winner from the qualifying round.
