Romania will organize the Snooker European Championships next year in October or November, gsp.ro informs. The information was confirmed by businessman Adrian Thiess, who brokered Ronnie O’Sullivan recent presence in Bucharest, hotnews.ro informs.
“We have only good news for all snooker lovers in Romania and not only. In no time, the contract between McCann Thiess Events and World Snooker will be signed for bringing the European Championships to Bucharest. For as long as a week, Romania will be on the map of snooker world. It’s a unique event for Bucharest. It is a promise that I kept after more than 7,000 people came to the matches at Globus Circus for the demonstrative matches organized in November this year. I can confirm the information that we will have a five-star tournament, a tournament to be attended by top snooker players. It’s an honour for me and for all of us who will organize this event to have 128 players in Bucharest. As you well know, Ronnie O’Sullivan was the first player who announced this year he will attend the European Championships in Bucharest next year. It will be a dream-week for snooker enthusiasts which they will not forget. It will be the second most important tournament held in Europe and will become one of the biggest events on the World Snooker calendar,” said Adrian Thiess for gsp.ro.
Besides Ronnie O’Sullivan, the next year’s edition of the European Championships could be attended, among others, by Stuart Bingham, Shaun Murphy, Judd Trump, Mark Williams and Mark Selby.
The 2016 European Championships edition is the newest competition organized by World Snooker.
The event will be attended by 128 players. The competition will be broadcast by 16 television channels in 138 countries.
