Table tennis, World Championship: Ovidiu Ionescu wins silver medal in men’s doubles

Romanian table tennis player Ovidiu Ionescu (photo) has won the silver medal, together with his partner Alvaro Robles, in the men’s doubles event. In the final, Ovidiu Ionescu and Alvaro Robles played for the gold medal against Long Ma/Chuqin Wang (China) but lost 4-1 (3-11, 11-8, 7-11, 3-11, 5-11).

Romania had nine table tennis players competing in the women’s and men’s competitions at the World Championship in Budapest during April 21-28.

The pair Ovidiu Ionescu (Romania) and Alvaro Robles (Spain) qualified to the final after defeating the Portuguese pair Tiago Apolonia/Joao Monteiro 4-3 (11-6, 3-11, 10-12, 11-7, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8).
