Tennis: Alexandra Dulgheru wins Hodmezovasarhely ITF tournament
Romanian tennis player Alexandra Dulgheru won on Sunday the final of the Hodmezovasarhely ITF tournament in Hungary, after defeating Ganna Poznikhirenko (Ukraine) in two sets 7-5 6-2.
Third-seeded Dulgheru, 28, 222nd WTA, prevailed over her 23-year-old opponent, 308th WTA, in an hour and 54 minutes.
Poznikhirenko led in the first set 5-2, but the Romanian had a remarkable comeback, and won five consecutive game points (7-5). Dulgheru dominated the second set, which she won 6-2.
This is Dulgheru’s, world number 26 in 2011, second 25,000-USD ITF title this year after Montpellier.
Romania also won the women’s doubles event at Hodmezovasarhely, as Romanian-Dutch duo Elena Gabriela Ruse /Eva Wacanno on Saturday defeated Italian pair Martina Di Giuseppe / Anna-Giulia 6-3 6-1.
