The Romanian tennis player Patricia Maria Tig was defeated on Sunday by Russian Margarita Gasparian, 6-3, 5-7, 6-0 in the final of the 226,750 USD WTA tournament in Baku (Azerbaijan).

Romanian tennis player Patricia Tig qualified on Saturday to the final after defeating first seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Russia) 6-3, 6-2.

This is Tig’s best performance of her career. She made her debut in the main draw of a WTA tournament just one month ago, at the BRD Bucharest Open.

The qualification to the final also comes with 198 WTA points, bringing Tig closer to the world’s top 100.

In the Sunday’s final, Tig will face Margarita Gasparian (20 y.o., 112th WTA, Russia). Gasparian won the semi-final in Baku against 2nd seeded Karin Knapp (Italy) in three sets (6-3, 5-7, 6-3).
