The Romanian team for the match against Canada in Fed Cup – Halep and Niculescu not included. Bouchard missing for Canada
The captain of Romania Fed Cup team, Alina Cercel-Tecsor, has officially nominated on Wednesday Irina-Camelia Begu, Alexandra Dulgheru, Andreea Mitu and Raluca Olaru to represent Romania in the matches against Canada accounting for the Play-Off of the World Group.
“Any player missing from the team, for different reasons – injury or because she is facing a milestone in her career – will not change the spirit and unity that we won together,”’ said Alina Cercel-Tecsor.
The matches between Romania and Canada will take place during April 18-19, 2015, at the Maurice Richard Arena in Montreal (Canada). The match will take place on the system best of five games.
Simona Halep (3rd WTA) has recently been criticized by former tennis player Ilie Nastase, after she announced she will not play in Canada because of fatigue. Ilie Nastase accused her of lack of patriotism and said that he would have gone to play in the Fed Cup for Romania rather than playing in the tournament in Stuttgart. In retort, Simona Halep told Digi Sport that she respects Ilie Nastase for his results and she won’t dare to comment his opinions. However she said that she is playing for Romania daily, but this time was too exhausted. The statements have sparked controversy on the internet.
Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu will also not play in Fed Cup, saying she is injured. Nevertheless, even in these days Niculescu is competing in the tournament in Katowice.
Eugenie Bouchard, the best tennis player of Canada, is not part of the team for the match against Romania. Canadian squad includes three players: Sharon Fichmann, Gabriela Dabrowski and Francoise Abandant.
