Belgian tennis coach Thierry Van Cleemput (photo) has confirmed he will work with Romanian tennis player Simona Halep in the coming period and an agreement with the athlete.
Nevertheless, he says he makes no promises that he would do a better job than Darren Cahill.
Thierry Van Cleemput said he gets along very well with Simona and when asked about collaboration, he replied: ‘Why not?’ He had already put an end to the cooperation with David Goffin.
“We’ll have a trial period to see if I feel all right, if she feels all right,” he added, according to DHNet, quoted by ziare.com.
Thierry Van Cleemput said he likes her play and it would be stupid to say he’ll do a better job that someone else, but he is interested in the job.
He will come to Bucharest next week to help Simona Halep, 1st WTA, to get ready for the tournaments in Doha and Dubai.
Thierry Van Cleemput was born in 1993, in Binche, and in the past five year he’s been the coach of Belgian tennis player David Goffin. He also worked with Olivier Rochus (1993-1997) and Steve Darcis (2011-2012). During 2002-2005 he was part of Belgium’s team for the Davis Cup.
He is married, with two children and has a wine business in his country.
Simona Halep has been coached in the past four years by Australian Darren Cahill.
