Romanian billionaire Ion Tiriac, owner of the tennis tournament in Madrid, has made the land of the former Metro Otopeni available by moving the Tiriac Auto Run division of second-hand cars sales in order to start investments aimed at building a sports centre near Bucharest, ‘Ziarul financiar’ informs.

According to data from the market, on the former platform of Metro Otopeni, located opposite the Henri Coanda (Otopeni) Airport, the Romanian billionaier’s holding will build a polyvalent sports hall with ice rink, a gym with swimming pool of Olympic size, but also a car circuit for defensive pilot courses. The investment is estimated to at least several tens of millions of euros.

There are ongoing studies for the venue and we’ll get back with information when we have a final decision,” the holding’s representatives said, without disclosing more information about the upcoming investment.

The Bucharest City Hall has been prospecting to build a new polyvalent hall and a skating rink for years, both of them being delayed indefinitely. The new polyvalent hall in Bucharest, hosted by the Lia Manoliu sports complex, should have been concluded last year, but the works have been delayed by the appeals to the auction.
