Tour of Romania: Romanian cyclist Serghei Tzvetcov wins second stage, takes over the yellow jersey

Serghei Tzvetcov (photo), member of Romania’s national team, won the second stage of the Tour of Romanian on Thursday on the Sibiu – Bradu – Avrig – Fagaras – Codlea – Ghimbav – Cristian – Rasnov – Poiana Braşov – Braşov route of 162.8 km.

Tzvetcov, who is competing for the US professional team UnitedHealthcare, was timed in 3 hours 55 min 20 sec. On the second position arrived another Romanian cyclist, Emil Dima (MsTina-Focus), 23 seconds behind and third was the Italian Mattia Bais (CT Friuli), also 23 seconds behind, etc.

The former leader of the general standings, Dutchman Peter Schulting (Monkey Town), finished 1 minute 10 sec behind Tsvetcov, so the Romanian is the new leader of the race. Mattia Bais is on the second position – 23 seconds, the podium being completed by Swiss Simon Pellaud (Illuminate), also 23 seconds behind, and by Emil Dima – 27 seconds behind, etc.

The white jersey (awarded to the best athlete under 23) is taken over by Mattia Bais, who also wears the green one (given to the best sprinter), Tzvetcov is the holder of the blue jersey (awarded to the best Romanian athlete), while the red jersey (awarded to the best climber) is taken over by Italian Nicola Venchiarutti (CT Friuli).

Friday takes place the third stage (176.3 km): Braşov – Târgu Secuiesc – Ojdula – Lepşa – Topeşti – Focsani.
