On Wednesday, Simona Halep has lost another position in the WTA rankings. After the Australian Open quarterfinals, the former world leader will be third, the first two places being occupied by Naomi Osaka and Petra Kvitova.

Naomi Osaka has qualified in the semi-finals and became the leader, at least temporarily. The 21-year-old Japanese tennis player eliminated Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-1 and climbed from fourth position to the first.

Karolina Pliskova has eliminated Serena Williams in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Karolina Pliskova and Naomi Osaka will compete for a place in the Australian Open final.

In the other semi-final Petra Kvitova will face surprise Danielle Collins, 35th WTA.

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep posted a message on Facebook on Tuesday after her presence at Australian Open, where she won against Kaia Kanepi, Sofia Kenin and Venus Williams, but was defeated on Monday, in the fourth round, by Serena Williams.

“It’s always special to share the court with Serena Williams. I can be proud of my performance here at the Australian Open and can’t wait to be back next year!” she wrote.

Serena Williams won 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in one hour and 47 minutes.

In a match counting for the quarter-finals on Tuesday, Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova has defeated Ashleigh Barty 6-1, 6-4 to qualify to the semi-finals.
