US Open: Monica Niculescu through in the singles and doubles events. Tecau/Rojer qualify to second round

Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu qualified for the third round of the US Open on Wednesday in New York, after defeating her compatriot Ana Bogdan 6-0, 6-1.

Monica Niculescu (28 years, 58th WTA) had defeated Ana Bogdan (23 years, 116th WTA) on two occasions: in 2010 in the first round in Bucharest 7-5, 7-5 and in 2015 in the first round in Bucharest 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

Niculescu’s best performance at the US Open dates back to 2011 when she reached the last sixteen round.

Monica is to collect USD 140,000 and 130 WTA points and will play in the third round against Caroline Wozniacki, who defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-4, 6-4. Wozniacki won all six matches played until now against Monica Niculescu.

In the doubles event, the pair made up of Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu and American Vania King qualified on Wednesday in the second round of the women’s doubles tournament defeating 6-2 5-7, 7-5 the American pair Ashley Weinhold/Caitlin Whoriskey.

In the men’s doubles the pair made up of Romanian tennis player Horia Tecau and Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer qualified to the second after defeating 6-1, 6-3 Julian Knowle (Austria)/Florian Mayer (Germany).

In the second round Rojer and Tecau will face Pavic Mate (Croatia)/Michael Venus.
