CSA Steaua Bucure?ti was defeated on Wednesday by Circolo Nautico Posillipo Napoli by 8-6 (1-0, 3-3, 3-2, 1-1) in the first leg the water polo Euro Cup semi-final.

Steaua, the first Romanian team reaching a European Cup semi-final in the past 26 years, made a pretty good game against Posillipo, but had to admit defeat in the end, Agerpres informs.

Steaua had played last season against Napoli Posillipo in the preliminary round of the Euro Cup, and then Italians have won 11-6 in the tournament they hosted. Posillipo failed last year to qualify for the final competition, being eliminated by HAVK Mladost Zagreb in the semi-finals.

Return semi-finals are scheduled on March 4. In the other semi-final Carpisa Yamamay Acquachiara (Naples) faces VK Mornar Brodospas Split (Croatia).
